RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication.
Instead of having to go to a web site to see what is new, you can subscribe to an RSS feed, if one is
available, and have your RSS reader do the checking for you. We provide an RSS feed for our journal
items at www.Violette.com, so if you subscribe you will know each day if something new has been
posted. There is no cost for subscribing nor is there a cost for the RSS reader (depending on which
one you install).
The easiest way to experience RSS is through an RSS "newsreader" or "aggregator" for your desktop
computer. This will fetch and organize recent content and provide simple ways to read it. We use
RssReader (it's free!) but there are many others
out there. You can go to RSS Compendium
or do a Google or Yahoo search for "rss readers" to find other readers.
To subscribe to this site's RSS feeds, enter or copy and paste the following address in your reader's Add Feed box:
http://www.Violette.com/Feeds.aspx.
If you click on the link at left you will see not a regular web page but what is called XML coding. Don't worry -
your RSS Reader will know what to do with that!
At other sites look for a symbol such as
or
which denote an RSS link is available to you.
