Tarab NYC is the only nonprofit of its kind in greater New York: a home specifically for LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming people of Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African identity. It holds both axes of that identity fully, refusing to flatten either.

Tarab NYC fosters an inclusive, safe community for LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African people in greater NYC — fighting stigma in both directions and holding the full complexity of who we are.

You are queer, trans, gender non-conforming, or somewhere on that spectrum — and you are Arab, Middle Eastern, or North African, or carry that heritage. You live in or around New York City and you're tired of being only half-visible wherever you go. Tarab NYC is built for people who have spent years code-switching between communities that each want only part of them: expected to perform gratitude in queer spaces, expected to stay silent in MENA ones. Here, neither axis of your identity is a footnote. The community is intentionally wide in how it holds both — spanning every sexual orientation, every gender identity, every ethnic and religious background within the MENA world. If you're looking for people who don't need an explanation, who are building chosen family and real friendship out of shared refusal to be partial — this is the community calling to you.

It feels celebratory and peer-led — not clinical or institutional — with the warmth of people who found each other after years of not being entirely seen anywhere. There is relief here, and joy, and collective recognition.
